Amid the myriad of themed cafes that paint the colorful and cute canvas of Harajuku, one that truly shines in its adorableness is none other than the Pompompurin Café!
Pompompurin, the lovable golden retriever crafted by Sanrio, has stolen the hearts of millions, including mine! With his brown beret and
creamy yellow fur, he’s like a living caramel pudding (purin means puddin in Japanese). Much like other Sanrio characters, this charming pup has his own storyline and animal buddies. One of his best friends, Muffin, a brown-and-white hamster, even has his own line of merchandise!
Our firsthand experience? In April 2023, David and I happened upon the Pompompurin Café during our Japan vacation, coincidentally on Pompompurin’s birthday! Stepping inside, we were welcomed by a burst of yellow and brown, the signature colors of the character. The café’s interior is a delightful blend of Pompompurin-themed decor, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Playful Pompompurin illustrations on the walls and cozy seating arrangements make it the perfect spot to relax and soak in Japan’s famed kawaii culture.
